Mammoth Mountain Masters Nationals

Dear Toni: It has been a year since Johns passing, in some ways it seems like yesterday, and others it seems like years. We can only imagine the challenges and heartbreak you have faced in this year. Michael and I have one prominent memory of Johnny that we always refer to when we want a laugh. At the Masters National Championship at Mammoth Mountain in California, in the mid 1990s, as you remember, we had at least three feet of fresh snow that first night. In the morning when preparing for our first race, Michael peered out of our hotel window, trying to get a handle on the weather for the day. The parking lot was completely white without any sign of the hundred cars that had been parked there the night before. Realization set in...the new snow had completely covered all of the SUVs. There in the middle of this mountain of snow was the solitary figure of Johnny B, in full race gear, standing on the roof of your Escalade, snow shovel in hand, shoveling like a mad man to dig the truck out to get to the mountain. Quite a warmup for his first race! Johnny added a different dimension to Masters, because of his drive to make the perfect turn, and ALWAYS to be the fastest. His devotion to his skills will always stand out, which served as a role model to us all. We love you xojoni and Michael
