I met Mr. Faber in 2001, as a student at Black Mountain Middle School in San Diego, just a month or so before advancing to Mt. Carmel High. He was due to speak to us later that day, but I was sitting in the school's office just as he arrived that morning. The receptionist introduced him to me, and I shook his hand. It was at that moment that I had my first experience with "touching history". I looked at this man, and I felt through his hand that he was more than a witness to the greatest crime in human history - he had seen it, he had lived it, he had endured it... and he had survived it. It was a potent experience, one I remember all these years later. And now, he has gone to his rest, to join his lost family in that world where there is no pain. Rest easy, Mr. Faber - let us who heard you carry your memories forward.
