I was so sorry to see Esther's obituary in the newspaper. I met her many years ago in a book club. She had retired by then, but was still involved with kids in various ways. I think she was especially pleased with her efforts to bring young people to hear the San Diego Symphony. She also took a special interest in my children, one of whom is a documentary filmmaker like her grandnephew Brent. She was sure all of the book club members saw his documentaries about unusual jobs in New York and was particularly tickled when Brent became the father of triplets. Esther didn't really engage in small talk - she got right to the point. I'll miss her intelligence, appreciation of music and literature and her keen eye for antiques.
