Condolences

Condolence From: Ann Sussman
Condolence: Rochelle was like a second mother to me. I knew her since I was 16. I could talk to her on the phone about all my dating experiences and we would laugh together about how her daughter, Elyse, and I would go to dances trying to meet the perfect man. Rochelle was a great listener. We could talk for hours. I will miss her dearly. Love to the family. May her memory be a blessing.

Condolence From: Randy Smookler Sussman
Condolence: Whenever my husband (Mark Sussman) and I visit our mother (in-law) at Seacrest Village I always looked forward to seeing Rochelle. During our last visit in December/January we sat in Rochelle's living and talked for over an hour. Such a gentle and loving soul. We will miss her but take comfort in the hope that she is with her husband and son.

Condolence From: Karen Vogel
Condolence: Rochelle was a special person who, along with Norman, became a trusted friend for my father at Seacrest Village. She looked out for my Dad, called me with updates, hugged me when I was able to visit. I lost my mother 5 years ago and being with Rochelle gave me comfort and closure. I will miss her smile and affection. Condolences from the Vogel family.

Condolence From: Paula Kerman
Condolence: Not many people are able to say they really enjoyed their mother in law- I am one of those
lucky ones who can honestly say that.
Razie, as Lonny affectionately nicknamed her, was easy to be around. She loved you
unconditionally, and showed her love with affection and drama. Yes, drama. I can’t begin to tell
you the amount of time we spent in airports as she cried and hugged us a million times, when
we had to leave.
She was also so sweet that she could be fooled by some of our antics- like the time Lonny and
I sent a picture of me holding a baby pig and told her it was our new puppy. She asked what
breed it was. We came clean after that response.
She was a woman who would help out in any way she could, often ironing everything in sight,
until Lonny had to tell her to come up from the basement and stop it already! She helped with
swimming for Lonny, with setting up my artroom at school, even with Megan and Haley’s after
graduation party at their high school. She knitted beautiful sweaters, hats, and baby covers for
Megan and Haley, and afghans for Lonny and me.
I lost my own mom 2 years ago, and miss her so much. Razie helped me by being the loving
person she was. A few days before she died, she repeated what she had said to me beforethat
she love me not like a daughter-in-law, but like a daughter. What a beautiful sentiment to
hold close to my heart.
She will be missed terribly.

Condolence From: Edith Schwartz
Condolence: I first met Rochelle around 1975 at an ORT meeting at Ceal Becker's house in San Diego. We stayed in touch throughout all these years.

I remember Rochelle worked part-time at Walker Scott department store, McKesson, and Long's (that became CVS). She said CVS never treated employees as well as Long's did. She also once gave me about 20 pairs of sunglasses, that probably came from Long's. I didn't have to buy another pair of sunglasses for a "long, long time" :)

Rochelle came to Alvarado Hospital and visited when my husband, George, had triple-bypass heart surgery in the 1970s.

When Norman was placed in the ICU at Seacrest Village, Rochelle was constantly by his side up to the end.

She was a good friend and I will miss her very much...
