Life Story for Roger C Lamson

Roger C. Lamson, 80 years old, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on February 3, 2018. Roger was born in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, to Willie Mae Lamson (nee Yancy) and Roger C. Lamson, Sr. His family eventually settled in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating from West End High School (class of ’55), he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to continue his education and earned his Bachelors’ Degree in Physics from Boston University and his Masters’ Degree in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University.

He settled in the Boston area with his first wife, Dr. Amy Lamson, with whom he had two children. Roger worked for many years at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his inventions included a magnetic storage system that the U.S. Government still depends upon for reliability and data integrity in cases of defense emergencies.

Roger relocated his family to San Diego, California in the mid 1970’s, where he co-founded Questron Corporation, an Aerospace Engineering firm. Considered an electrical genius, Roger applied his engineering technology to missile guidance reentry systems. His entrepreneurial spirit piqued again in the early 1990’s when Roger took ownership of an automotive repair shop for several years. He went back to his first love of Engineering at Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation where he worked in the Fan group on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Roger was a sailing enthusiast, and enjoyed many weekends on his beloved boat the"Beija-Flor” cruising San Diego Bay. He was a past member of the Southwestern Yacht Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Susan, his daughter Laurie, son Mark, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Pace Lamson, and granddaughter, Victoria Lamson Chavez. He will be in our hearts forever.

Graveside service will be 10:00am on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Highway, San Diego, California. The graveside, in King David’s Garden, is located on the immediate left as you enter the park from Imperial Avenue.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in Roger’s name to a charity of your choice.
