Obituary for Lewis Jacob Rubin

Lewis Jacob Rubin
Rubin, Lewis Jacob
March 15, 1924 to August 15, 2017

Lewis Jacob Rubin, adored husband, beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, Harvey Rubin, Karen Rubin, and Cindy Murro, and has finally been reunited with the love of his life and best friend, Ruth Helen Rubin. In addition to his three children, Lew is survived by his son-in-law—Joseph Murro, and two loving grandchildren—David and Rachel Murro. He also leaves behind his “second family,” made up of the many former students whose lives he has positively impacted. Retired from the NYC Board of Education and San Diego Unified School District, Lew was the consummate school teacher. He was also a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and never missed a chance to salute his comrades. Semper Fi! Lew loved sports, both as a participant and a spectator. Not only did he play baseball and football in college, but he also tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. New York City born and bred, Lew referred to his second home as “His San Diego.” He was a diehard San Diego Charger fan who held season tickets for the past 27 years.
A celebration of Lew’s life will be held on Sunday, August 27th at 12:30pm. For details call 818-324-4551.
Funeral services will be held graveside at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego, CA at 1:00pm on Monday, August 28, 2017.
