Life Story for Ruth Brown Goorevitch (Brown)

RUTH BROWN GOOREVITCH, 87, of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA and formerly of Laguna Woods, CA, died Monday, October 31st, 2016. Ruth was born on April 22nd, 1929 in New York, NY. She was the second daughter of Hyman and Jennie Adelman Brown and the sister of the late Charlotte Brown Yesselman. For 66 years Ruth was the beloved wife of Martin Goorevitch who preceded her in death less than four months before on July 9th, 2016. Together they had three daughters, Carol Wadlinger (husband William “Bill” Wadlinger) of Erdenheim, PA, Barbara Cook of Atlanta, GA and Charlotte Goldstein (husband Steven “Steve” Goldstein) of San Diego, CA, and four grandsons, Benjamin and Daniel Wadlinger, and Max and Joshua Goldstein.

Ruth worked for the war effort while still a teenager, graduated from Brooklyn College at the age of nineteen, and married Martin in August 1949. Together they moved from New York to Ohio and ultimately to California where they relished the mild temperate climate for 56 years. Ruth was devoted to her husband and to her daughters. She stayed at home with them when they were very small and then did some part-time work in Personnel for the local school district. Eventually she rejoined the fulltime workforce as a Systems Analyst for Rockwell International. After both she and Martin retired they traveled extensively, visiting cousins in Israel and Rio de Janeiro, and flying all over the United States, Canada and Europe. Ruth was particularly fond of cruising, especially the intimacy of small sailing ships.

Ruth and Martin were avid bridge players and active members of Temple Beth David with Ruth serving a term as Sisterhood president. At home Ruth enjoyed needlework and baking and she happily taught those skills to her daughters. Above all else Ruth valued family, health and education. She shared a love for classical music with Martin but she also relished the stage, especially musical theater, ballet and opera. Throughout her entire life she remained passionate about the importance of hard work, fairness, and speaking up against injustice.

Donations to honor her memory may be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America http://www.ccfa.org/get-involved/donate-to-ccfa/honors-and-memorial.html
