Life Story for Ingrid Mazie (Widetsky)

Ingrid Mazie (Widetsky)
Ingrid Mazie, 83, died peacefully on April 1, 2016 at Pacifica House in Carlsbad, California, surrounded by family and long-time devoted caregivers. Born in Berlin on July 11, 1932, Ingrid lost her parents, Erica and Walter Widetsky, and her brother, Peter, during the Holocaust. She immigrated to the United States with her younger sister, Monica, when Fred and Mickey Hart, a couple who had moved from Vienna, Austria to Mason City, Iowa, adopted the girls in 1949. In 1959, Ingrid married Marvin Mazie, with whom she raised three children (Jeffrey, Barbra and Steven) in Des Moines, Iowa. In the 1980s, Ingrid completed her bachelor's and master's degrees and became an expert in logotherapy, Viktor Frankl's theory that life has meaning under even the most trying of circumstances. For over a decade, she used logotherapeutic principles in her work as a counselor for college students at Drake University. Upon retirement in 2004, Ingrid and Marvin moved from Des Moines to San Diego. A gifted cook, a lover of the ocean, a beauty with an inimitable sense of style, and a remarkable, resilient soul beloved by all who knew her, Ingrid leaves an inspiring legacy for her husband Marvin, her sister Monica, her three children and seven grandchildren (Rachel, Joshua, Matthew, Samuel, Amarya, Barra and Yona).
