Life Story for Evelyn Azer (Taylor)

Evelyn Azer, 79, of La Jolla, California died on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 after a long, courageous battle with lung disease. Born Evelyn Taylor April 30, 1936 in Everett, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Sarah Taylor. She was married to Philip Azer, caring husband and lifetime partner on January 16, 1957, in Everett, Massachusetts.

Evelyn resided in Pittsfield Massachusetts for many years before moving to La Jolla.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Philip Azer of La Jolla, California, four children, David Azer of Passaic New Jersey, Kristen Taylor, Richard Azer, and Steven Azer of San Diego California, their spouses Chaya Azer, Brenda Azer & Gary Boriero, 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Evelyn was the oldest in a family of three siblings – her sisters Naomi Schwartz of Sarasota Florida and the late Frances Taylor Eizenstat of Bethesda, Maryland.

Evelyn was raised in Everett, Massachusetts, graduating from Everett High School in 1954. She received a nursing degree from Beth Israel University in 1957, followed by a Masters of Psychology from National University in the 1980’s. Evelyn worked as a nurse while raising a family. In her younger years, Evelyn was an avid tennis player and through her life she enjoyed attending professional tennis events.

Evelyn and her family moved to La Jolla, California in 1977. In San Diego, she worked for San Diego Hospice, for many years served as the office manager of her husband’s medical practice, enjoyed walks at the San Diego Zoo and visits with her family. She was a highly spiritual person, always interested in helping others even while focused on her own long term health issues. Evelyn was active with many synagogues over the decades, including most recently Chabad of Downtown San Diego.

Evie was laid to rest in the Garden of Eden section of El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego California on January 28, 2016. Memorial contributions, in remembrance of Evelyn Azer may be made to “Chabad of Downtown San Diego”, 308 G Street, San Diego, CA 92101.
