Life Story for Seymour Elliot Teitelbaum

Seymour Elliot Teitelbaum, 89, of Scottsdale, AZ died peacefully on August 15, 2014.
Seymour was born on February 14, 1925 in the Bronx, NY to Minnie and Philip Teitelbaum. He joined the army just before his 18th birthday and served during WWII in the European theater from 1943 until 1946. Upon his return home, Seymour moved to Monticello, NY where he became an electrician. A mutual friend introduced him to his future wife, Sylvia Trop, whom he married on October 23, 1949.
Seymour and Sylvia moved to Sylvia’s hometown of Granville, NY. Seymour and his brother-in-law, Herman Trop, took ownership of Tropic Fruit Company, a wholesale produce business that served many grocery stores, camps, restaurants and ski areas in upstate New York and southern Vermont. Seymour and Sylvia raised their three children in Granville and became active in many political and social organizations. When Seymour sold Tropic Fruit in 1975, he and Sylvia moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Seymour retired to San Diego, California in 1987 and he and Sylvia spent many happy years there. Every winter, they traveled to Israel to volunteer in schools and plant nurseries. They made many lifelong friends in Netanya and Tel Aviv. Back at home, Seymour was president of the House of Israel in Balboa Park from 1996 to 1998. Seymour lost his beloved wife, Sylvia, in 2002, on their 53rd anniversary. He was also predeceased by his companion, Linda Rose, in 2013.
Seymour is survived by his sister, Edith Orenstein; three children, Philip Teitelbaum and wife Carolyn Baker of Scottsdale, AZ, Naomi Nagy of Scottsdale, AZ, and Miriam Morgenstern and husband Jeffrey of Westford, MA; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 18 at 1:00PM at Home of Peace cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the House of Israel, Balboa Park, 2156 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101, or to the Jewish National Fund, www.jnf.org.
