Life Story for Nancy K Hymes (Krause)

Nancy K Hymes (Krause)
Nancy Hymes died in the arms of her family on November 7th at 9:52 pm after a long and courageous 10 year fight with metastatic breast cancer. She was born June 14th, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio to Edwin and Eunice Krause. They moved to Providence, Rhode Island when she was an infant. Nancy was raised in Providence and graduated from Lincoln School in 1966. She earned her Bachelors in Political Science from Goucher College in Baltimore in 1970. She went on to Columbia University in New York City to earn her Master’s degree in Counseling and Pupil Personnel.
She worked for two years in the counseling department at Brooklyn Community College, before moving to Washington, D.C. where she was the assistant director of admissions at Georgetown Dental School. It was there where she met and married her husband of 38 years, Robert W. “Skip” Hymes in 1978. Their son Michael was born in Boston where Skip was pursuing his specialty certification in periodontics. Later that year, the three of them moved to San Diego so Skip could open his own periodontal practice. Their daughter Laurie arrived in 1982 and currently lives in New York City.
Nancy spent most of her time as a volunteer at the schools where her children attended. She was heavily involved with the Del Mar Little League and was the first person to computerize the league itself. She served as the league’s player agent for eight years. In addition, she was very active with CYT and Coast Kids Theater programs as a back stage manager. She was also a member of the cancer group LBL.
Most important to Nancy was always her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Skip, son Michael (wife Holly), daughter Laurie, brother Robert (wife Margie), and step mother Anne Krause.
The memorial will be held at Beth Israel of San Diego, 9001 Towne Centre Drive, San Diego, CA 92122 on November 12th at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to http://www.metavivor.org/Donate.html
